Question: Technical Mac Question

can you burn dvd's at the same time as rendering effects in final cut pro? every time i was burning a dvd and tried to render an effect it spit out the dvd and said it had an error.

actually, although i have used the internet while burning dvds on my toast program, it just now, as i writing this email, spit out yet another dvd(that was the fifth wasted dvd!)

>the error that comes up on my toast program is this:

the drive reported an error
sense key=illegal request
sense code+ 0x30, 0x05
cannot write medium-icompatable format

>then i hit the ok key and it says

disc failed to be written

>then it spits it out.

yet yesterday i burned almost a dozen on the same kind of dvd's dvd-r.
i am stummped.

i cant affor this mistake anymore. what should i do?

thanks you great people

Answer: Technical Mac Question

I found some discussion of this issue on some online forums, and it seems there a couple of things to look at.

1.) Make sure you are using the correct medium. It looks like users have had problems with certain kinds of DVDs. Make sure you are using a DVD-R or -RW (not DVD+R or +RW).

2.) OR, yes, your rendering could be a problem. Although the error message sounds like it has more to do with the media, the discussion boards mentioned the issue of "buffer underrun" being a problem. If another application is using a lot of processing power while the burn is happening (a render is pretty labor-intensive for your machine; Web surfing is not), the burn application can't get data off your hard drive fast enough for burn.

Trying to burn a DVD with no other applications running might be the easiest (and cheapest) thing to try first.

Good luck!
