My college administration has prevented the student government from giving money to a Palestinian student whose home was demolished recently by the Israeli army. The student government has a constitution and, while not a legal document, it regulates and stipulates the ways in which student club money, from the convocation fund, will be spent. There is nothing in our constitution that says we cannot give money to private individuals or charities (which is what this would be), but the administration has prevented us from doing it because of political reasons (trustees).
Their newest excuse is that such an action would put the college's non-profit status legally at risk. This, I think, is untrue. Could you find out for sure? I am also emailing the National Lawyers Guild to get two opinions. Thanks a lot.
