The following is a round up of the subject headings (24), cross-references (6), and subdivisions (2) suggested to the Library of Congress during our LCSH Blog-a-Thon. Included is anything that was legitimately tagged with rr_lcsh2008 on del.icio.us. Thanks to everyone who helped promote this effort, and huge thanks to everyone who participated.
Members of Radical Reference hope to work with catalogers, particularly those from the RADCAT discussion list to SACOfy suggested headings that haven't previously been submitted to LC in a formal manner. However, we also think that it would be nice if the form weren't the barrier that it is for non-cataloging librarians to contribute subject heading ideas.

BOLLYWOOD FILMS
Progressive Librarians Guild-UA Chapter
proposed by Sanford Berman 14 August 2007
When searching LC's online catalog, you have 103 entries for the keyword "Bollywood". According to Wikipedia, it is one of the biggest film producers in the world. Many of your collected materials even have the term Bollywood in the title, such as Bollywood: the Indian cinema story by Nasreen Munni Kabir.
From the publisher's description, "Culture and Global Change presents a comprehensive introduction to the cultural aspects of third world development. It contains 25 chapters from leading writers in the field which each offer their own particular take on 'culture' and explore the significance and meaning of cultural issues for different people in different parts of the contemporary world... this book considers the relationship between culture and development within a truly global context." This describes Culture and Global Change edited by Tracey Skelton and Tim Allen. If Bollywood is an important cultural issue and has had a part in influencing development in the Indian subcontinent, it should be substantial enough to warrant a subject heading.

FOLKSONOMY
Jenna
FOLKSONOMY was first proposed to the Cataloging Policy & Support Office in September 2007 by Sanford Berman.
I refer you to items in your own catalog for documentation. Blogs, Wikipedia, Second life, and Beyond : from production to produsage by Axel Bruns , held by the Library of Congress, which has a chapter called "Folksonomies : produsage and/of knowledge structures." and Library 2.0 and beyond : innovative technologies and tomorrow's user by Nancy Courtney, which has a chapter called "Folksonomies and user-based tagging," by Ellyssa Kroski.
Further warrant can be found in Daniel's H. Pink's having published an article in The New York Times about it, Folksonomy from December 11, 2005.
It might also be of interest to note that a Google search on <folksonomy | folksonomies> returns 2,000,000 results.
(However, please do not take my suggestion of adding FOLKSONOMY as a subject heading to be a recommendation to replace subject headings with it altogether. As an academic librarian working with researchers every day, I still heart controlled vocabulary, not to mention skilled, experienced catalogers and the work they do. See "On the Record" but Off the Track: A Review of the Report of The Library of Congress Working Group on The Future of Bibliographic Control, With a Further Examination of Library of Congress Cataloging Tendencies by Thomas Mann.)
FREEGANISM
Progressive Librarians Guild-UA Chapter
proposed by Sanford Berman, 28 June 2007
Although a neologism, it still is not too new of a term to include; it began, officially, in the mid 1990's. This not only describes a movement, but an important extension of veganism, which "although the term "vegan" started in the United Kingdom about 50 years ago with the formation of the Vegan Society, the practice of not eating animal products actually began long ago." (from VeganNet)
There are 124 entries in the LC online catalog for the keyword "vegan", and 212,000 entries on Google for "freeganism". The site, Freegan.info explains the movement as,
"Freeganism is a total boycott of an economic system where the profit motive has eclipsed ethical considerations and where massively complex systems of productions ensure that all the products we buy will have detrimental impacts most of which we may never even consider. Thus, instead of avoiding the purchase of products from one bad company only to support another, we avoid buying anything to the greatest degree we are able."
Considering the increase of people interested in socially responsible, green living, it would be an important topic to be able to research. Even Oprah had a segment on Freegans!
Most of the publications about the topic seem to be blogging and articles, yet not many books, but hopefully that will change in the near future. Having a subject heading for it might influence more non-electronic-only publications.

GENDER DIFFERENCES

LC has not established "Gender differences" as a heading or subheading. Instead it continues to use "Sex differences" to cover biological AND socially-constructed differences. This is long overdue. There are 4,926 hits in Worldcat for "gender differences."

SEX TOY PARTIES
VickieP on Myspace
The Library of Congress needs a subject heading for Sex Toy Parties
The Library of Congress tries to have subject headings for anything there are books about. (Check out their database of subject terms.) However, they are sometimes behind the times in coming up with headings for new books and in using terms that real people are likely to think of.
I'm very pleased to report that they have headings for dildos and even strap-on sex. There are certainly books on those subjects. However, they don't have a heading for sex toy parties, which are to sex toys what Tupperware parties are to kitchenware. There are books on that subject, too. (Librarians call this "literary warrant.") For example, Naughty Girls' Night In: Start Your Own Sex-Toy Party Business (You Know It's Not the '50s When You're Selling Your Girlfriends Lingerie and Sex Toys Instead of Plasticware).
Sex toy parties are also mentioned in The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pleasing Your Woman (p. 228) and The Sex Bible: The Complete Guide to Sexual Love (p. 204). (Gee, I love Amazon's "search inside the book" feature.)
TRIBAL SOVEREIGNTY

See Michael McLaughlin's article in Versed (Nov-Dec 2005 issue). McLaughlin notes that there is no SH for Tribal Sovereignty and makes some points about classification that may also be of interest to the committee. For literary warrent: a quick survey of local catalog turned up four works that used "Tribal Sovereignty". If others find further works, please add to this entry.

CAR PARKS
Kylie J
Hi there, I'd like to suggest the term 'Car parks' as a UF/see reference for the subject heading 'Parking lots'. In Australia, Britain, New Zealand and probably other English-speaking places, people refer to them as car parks and not the US term, parking lots.
It's a good example of a term that is very much used in some English-speaking places but not others, and would be very helpful in catalogue-land as a see reference.
