File this under, "Well, duh!"
The Washington Post yesterday wrote a story about the problems with NYPD's tactics before and during the RNC. The best part of the story, and perhaps most important lesson, was the last sentence, a quote by Norman Siegal (Steven's bro?!), a civil liberties lawyer, who said, "We don't lose our rights overnight with a big bang; we lose them incrementally over time."
Truthout reprinted the story, along with an editor's note which says:
In describing the August 31st protests at the Republican National Convention, the Washington Post refers to the demonstrators as "Anarchists." In fact, the A31 Action Committee that organized the protests included many traditional peace and social justice groups. To brand them indiscriminately as "Anarchists" only marginalizes them.
