Library Activism & How to Effect Change

Radical Reference NYC presents a salon discussion on effecting change in librarianship.

Sunday, September 23 at 5pm
ABC No Rio, 156 Rivington St., 3rd Floor

How do you launch an alternative press collection, develop a radical films series, organize a union, start a group (like Radical Reference), etc? Come hear how others have achieved their pet projects and brainstorm new ideas and ways of implementing them.

All library workers, LIS students, and LIS faculty are welcome. We occasionally welcome those who merely love libraries and library workers.

  • The discussion will be preceded by a 3-45 minute Radical Reference business meeting.
  • Radical Reference volunteers wanting some hands on training on the website can come starting at 4pm.
  • Attendees are asked to donate a buck or two to ABC No Rio for providing the meeting space.
  • More info the Effect Change theme at
    http://librarycampnyc.wikispaces.com/Effecting+Change
  • F/JMZ to Delancey/Essex or buses B39, M9, M14A
  • ABC No Rio on NYC subway map
  • Contact nyc@radicalreference.info if you have any questions.

sorry--no easy answer

I'm afraid I don't feel prepared to answer the previous commenter's question in full. This was that this was a discussion where people shared their ideas and strategies, not explicitly a "how to" session, complete with manual.

For an idea of how the conversation went, read the meeting notes. You might also have a look at notes from the session at LibraryCampNYC or my personal notes from that workshop.

explanation

The original "question" the above comment was in response to has been deleted, but since the response contains useful pointers it's being retained.
