I wish I had more to say on the issue of the Vancouver Public Library strike than, "Go team!" or "Solidarity!" Fortunately Kathleen de la Peña McCook and Shinjoung Yeo are articulating the issue and their support brilliantly on the Union Librarian and the Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship blogs. |

Progressive Library Skillshare This free two-day event will bring together library workers, library lovers, zine enthusiasts, book artists, publishers, and community members to explore the relationship between library work and social justice. We'll connect each other with alternative information resources while discussing socially responsible, creative ways to share information in our communities. This unconference will encourage us to think critically about information: how it's produced, distributed, and consumed. |

In case any of y'all who aren't already librarians have been thinking about a career in librarianship, here's your chance to do so with a LAURA BUSH scholarship. "St. John’s Division of Library & Information Science is funding 40 full scholarships for students interested in earning their MLS with an emphasis on engaging underserved children and their families in using public libraries, school media centers, and museums." http://dwarfurl.com/ef0f9 |

In case anyone cares, I've started a separate blog for my non-Rad Ref, non-activist, but generally library related posts. It's at http://jenna.openflows.com. |

Radical Reference will be meeting and socializing at the ALA Annual conference in Washington, DC on Saturday, June 23, 2007. We plan to meet at 8:30pm at the Hawk 'n' Dove at 329 Pennsylvania Ave. SE. The Hawk 'n' Dove does not have much in the way of vegetarian or vegan food. So the vegans among us might have to get some takeout or eat a little earlier. |
